Scholarship-Leadership Awards

Since 1948, the Scholarship-Leadership Awards Program has been the Endowment Fund's hallmark program. The total awarded through the program to outstanding Kappa Sigma student-leaders is over the $4.0 million mark. The Endowment Fund is pre-eminent among Greek foundations in its financial support to undergraduate members.

In 2006, the SLA Commission made cash awards to 275 undergraduate brothers in the amounts of $2,500 (see related section on Named Awards), $1,000 and $500. An additional 100 brothers received non-cash Certificates of Merit. Selections were made on the basis of academic performance, campus leadership and fraternity involvement. The Commission also awarded 60 undergraduate Brothers with Chapter Scholarship Fund Awards. These awards were made possible by generous alumni from their chapter.

We want to thank all of those Brothers that applied for the 2006 awards and congratulate all of the recipients. We encourage all undergraduate Brothers to apply for the 2007 SLA scholarships. We would also like to thank our Volunteers who worked with the applicants to get their applications verified and transcripts sent to Charlottesville.

Scholarship-Leadership Awards

The 2007 Scholarship Leadership Awards online application will go live on Monday, August 13th. Paper applications may be downloaded at anytime and can be submitted immediately.

All applications whether online or paper, must be received no later than October 1st, 2007 at International Headquarters.

All transcripts must be received at IHQ no later than November 1st, 2007.

Transcripts must be an official school copy with an embossed seal or tamper-proof stamp, unless accompanied by a letter from the records office stating that the school does not provide official copies.
Transcripts must be mailed by the school in a sealed envelope, and not by the brother applying for the award.

Faxed, copied, self-printed, or opened transcripts will not be accepted as an offical transcript for the purpose of scoring your Scholarship application. The only exception to this rule is a letter from the school verifying that this is their method of providing official transcripts.
Any costs associated with procuring or mailing transcripts are the responsibility of the applicant.

It is also the responsibility of the applicant to make sure that the application is complete. Any omissions from critical data sections such as GPA, course hours, name, etc., will automatically disqualify the application. Applications may be edited or updated with new information up until the deadline on October 1st. Each time an application is resubmitted it will require verification from your chosen Volunteer and EC member.

A submission profile is not considered complete until the Endowment Fund has received the complete application, an official transcript, and verification from your selected Volunteer and EC member.

Letters of recomendation, emails, or phone calls from members in support of your application are not accepted, as the scoring process is completely subjective and based solely on your submitted data and your membership record located at IHQ. Personal factors outside of the application will not be used to determine award eligibility.

Please add ksef@hq.kappasigma.org to your email program's safe list. Failure to do so might result in the verfication emails being sent to a junk mail folder by mistake.

As a further precaution, when you submit your application, please inform your selected volunteer and EC Member to watch for the verfication email. Applications are not complete until they have been verified by both brothers that you select. Emails are sent automatically by the system, immediately after you submit the application.
