Intern Program

The Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund Intern Program was created in 2006 to provide undergraduate brothers the opportunity to work and learn in a "hands-on" fraternal environment.  This program is designed to offer undergraduates the opportunity to utilize skills acquired in their individual majors with real employment experiences and situations. Each semester, the Endowment Fund will accommodate up to two prestigious internship opportunities.

Who Is Eligible?

  1. Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Graduate Students, and Recent Graduates (within 2 years).  While all majors will be considered, special consideration will be offered to undergraduates majoring in: business, marketing, finance, management, communications and political science.
  2. ONLY initiates of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Selection Criteria

  1. Academic Qualifications (a minimum of  a 2.0 GPA and above).
  2. Leadership positions held within your chapter (EC, Chairs, etc.)
  3. Campus Involvement and Leadership positions held on campus (Student Gov’t, Judicial Board, Pres. of Omicron Delta Kappa, etc.)
  4. Honors, Awards & Achievements Received
  5. Community Service/Philanthropic Involvement.
  6. Communication Skills (Public Speaking, Phone & Conversation Skills, Business Etiquette knowledgeable)
  7. Thorough knowledge of Kappa Sigma History and Current Events & Information
  8. Ability to listen and comprehend new ideas, concepts and methods.
  9. Ability to Relate to Undergraduates, University Administration, Alumni, and Donors.

Job Description

Work out of the Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund office located at the Kappa Sigma International Headquarters in Charlottesville, VA.  Interns will be responsible for assistance in programs such as: alumni relationship cultivation, Jackson’s Men, the McCormick’s Circle, the Heritage Society, Renaissance Campaign, Conclave, Leadership Conferences, etc.  This includes, but is not limited to, phone conversations, inputting of data, idea development, marketing, fundraising, and general Endowment Fund assistance.

    • Note: A faxed copy may be submitted for initial review.  An official copy will still need to be submitted for full consideration.

Internship Timelines

Intern(s) will be appointed prior to each academic semester/session to serve during the Fall Semester (August 15 to December 22), Spring Semester (January 8  to May 31) or Summer Semester (June 1 to August 15).

Any undergraduate applying for the internship MUST be willing to commit the entire time of the internship. 

Other Requirements

Intern(s) will be expected to attend all Kappa Sigma meetings, including but not limited to: weekly progress meetings, meetings with fraternal guests and/or donors, etc.  Intern(s) will also be responsible and be very knowledgeable of 46 East Lawn and conducting tours to guests of the Endowment Fund, General Fraternity or Alumni Association.

Academic Credit

The number of hours of academic credit granted to each student differs.  The Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund will work hand in hand with your host institution to try to offer the following:

  • Fall – 12 to 15 credit hours
  • Spring – 12 to 15 credit hours
  • Summer – 3 to 6 credit hours

The Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund makes no guarantees on the awarding of university credit.  The final decision is based on your host institution policy and procedures.

Stipend

A stipend of $250 per week will be paid to each intern, plus reimbursement for travel to and from fraternity functions at a rate of 30 cents per mile of authorized fraternity travel. A reimbursement, up to $250, will be offered to offset the cost of your relocation to Charlottesville, VA.

Housing

The Endowment Fund will provide single room housing with two or three suite mates at a collegiate residence complex.  Each unit is fully furnished with a bed, dresser, etc. Included amenities are: Basic Cable Television, Water & Sewer, Electricity & Gas, High Speed Internet Service, Maintenance, Mail Delivery & Mail Forwarding, Resort Style Pool, Oversized Hot Tub, State of the Art Fitness Center, Full-Sized Basketball Court, Free Tanning Booth, Sand Volleyball Court, Game Room w/ a Pool Table, Picnic Areas w/ BBQ grills, Spacious Patios & Balconies and a free shuttle service to the University of Virginia if needed.  Telephone Service is optional, but a cell phone is the recommended means of phone communication.

Transportation

The Endowment Fund will cover the cost of transportation to and from events, including hotel rooms and meals, that are relevant to Endowment Fund operations.  Intern(s) will need a means of transportation to and from the office, areas of Charlottesville, etc.  It is necessary each intern(s) bring his automobile for use during the internship.

Selection Committee

Each application will be reviewed to determine if it meets all requirements set forth for full consideration.  Upon granting full consideration, the application will be reviewed by a selection committee.  The committee will narrow the field to the top five potential candidates.  Each of the top five candidates will be granted a phone interview either with the Executive Director of the Endowment Fund, a committee member(s) or a combination thereof.  The candidate(s) selected for the prestigious internship will be contacted by the Executive Director of the Endowment Fund to make further arrangements.
